VANCOUVER — Just nine days before the Olympic Games, BC Transit is experiencing some “hiccups” with a fleet of hydrogen buses.

Some of the 20 fuel cell buses have been stalling and it’s believed software issues are to blame, said BC Transit spokeswoman Joanna Morton.

“It comes down to very technical issues. We have a number of systems that are operating this bus and the engineers have been working on synchronizing the software,” said Morton.

“We’re working with the team and also our industry partners to work out the tweaks.”

Some of the buses have been undergoing testing for months but the last two buses arrived in Whistler at the end of January.

Morton said BC Transit isn’t concerned about the fleet being ready for the Olympic crowds.

She said a dozen of the buses were being used Tuesday. The company also has contingency buses they can use in case of breakdowns.
