A longtime Queensborough grocery store owner has passed away.

Benny Jow, who ran Benny's Mart in Queensborough, died on Jan. 10.

Jow, 76, came to Vancouver in 1956 from Guangdong, China and in 1961, married wife Mary. Together, the two of them built their business and contributed to the Queensborough community and other charitable causes.

Jow was an enthusiastic supporter and long-serving member of the Yue Shan Society, The Chinese Benevolent Association of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland Independent Grocers Association. Jow is survived by wife, Mary; three sons Tony (Lori), Andrew, and Phil (Jenn); and grandsons Adam, Nick, Scott, Jordan, Taylor, Brandon and Lucas.

The funeral service will be held at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel at 1835 E. Hastings St. in Vancouver) on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11:30 a.m., with the burial to follow at Forest Lawn Funeral Home at 3789 Royal Oak Ave. at 1:30 p.m.
