The Lower Mainland transgender community will be hosting a Justice for January rally this Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at New Westminster city hall.

Participants will march to the New Westminster provincial courthouse in a call for justice for January Lapuz, who died in New Westminster on Sept. 29, 2012.

Organizers of the rally are opposing the release of Charles Jameson (Jamie) Neel, the man charged in Lapuz's death. In addition, organizers are asking for the immediate instatement of human rights protections at both the federal and provincial levels for all gender-variant, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit and intersexual individuals.

Organizers are also calling for a general reform of B.C.'s trans health program to allow access to services for citizens outside of the Downtown Eastside Vancouver catchment area and create easily accessible resources for the province's transgender and gender-variant citizens.
