Last year's unsung hero was named the 2012 winner of the Gord Nicholson Trophy as the Western Lacrosse Association's best defensive player.

Langley Thunders Brett Mydske of New Westminster was a unanimous choice for the award.

Langley's key faceoff man, Ian Poole, was named the winner of this year's unsung hero award.

Burnaby Lakers head coach Bob Johnston was named coach of the year. Johnston led the youthful Lakers into the playoffs for the first time since 2008 with a record of 9-7-2. The Lakers were also recipients of the Ab Brown most sportsmanlike team award.

Other award winners included Coquitlam Adanacs Nick Rose as the outstanding goaltender and Nanaimo Timbermen's Cody Bremner as rookie of the year.
