Royal men miss medal at college hoop provincials

 

 
 
 

The upset-minded Douglas College Royals finished fourth at the B.C. Colleges' Athletic Conference men's provincial basketball championships.

The Royals fell 95-80 to Capilano University in the bronze medal final at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford Saturday.

Kadeem Scott led Douglas with 19 points in the consolation final, while Aneetan Braich and Ameet Kaila both contributed 16-point outings.

Michael Zayonc led all scorers with 21 points for Capilano.

The Royals upset fourth seed University of B.C. Okanagan 103-86 in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

Drew Slaght scored a game-high 28 points for Douglas. Braich added a double-double, scoring 23 points and adding 10 rebounds.

In the semifinals, eventual B.C. college champion Vancouver Island University defeated Douglas 102-78.

Slaght again led the Royals with 19 points, including three three-pointers, while Scott, Braich and Garrett Ling-Lee all hit for double figures.
