Schaap charts course for London

Hilary Schaap was hoping her "worker's tan" wouldn't be too obvious in her strapless dress for her high school graduation dinner and dance last weekend. Such is one of the worries when you happen to be one of the top up-and-coming rowers in the province.

Multinationals stick to their guns

Back in July 2010, I discovered two South Korean naval vessels berthed at Lonsdale Quay, with invitations posted for the public to board. B.C. Girls' Choir dreams up 'Our World in Song' show

Dreamgirls, presented by Arts Club Theatre Company, runs until July 7 at Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage on Granville. With a story loosely based on The Supremes, Dreamgirls captures the concept of the 1960s with absolutely spectacular costumes by Sheila White. The clever set design by Ted Roberts is perfectly complimented by Marsha Sibthorpe's lighting design. The show has great energy from leads and chorus alike. It is the "sung-through" style of this musical that just may not appeal to many fans of musical theatre. Composer Henry Krieger won a Grammy for Best Cast Show Album, and he also received a Tony Award nomination for his score. Dreamgirls has all the elements for a hit show - you just have to like and appreciate the non-traditional musical style. Get tickets via 604-687-1644.
