One man is dead and New Westminster Police are looking for at least one suspect after a Saturday night stabbing.

On Sept. 29, just after 10 p.m., police responded to an incident in the 500-block of Third Avenue where a man was stabbed.

Ambulance paramedics took the man to hospital, but he died just before 6 a.m. on Sunday.

Witnesses in the area told police about another man seen running from the scene and investigators are asking for the public's assistance in locating this man.

The man is described as an Asian male, in his mid-twenties, approximately 5-5 with short black hair, a muscular build and wearing a black muscle shirt and grey shorts.

The victim's identity will not be released until police complete next-of-kin notification.

“Investigators are attempting to conduct a neighborhood canvass to obtain any information that may assist in locating the suspect and help determine a motive for this stabbing," Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the integrated homicide investigation team said in a press release.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or by email to ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
