Police are notifying the public about a sex offender granted day parole near Abbotsford with an unprecedented warning.
James Douglas Campbell, 59, a convicted pedophile serving a 24-year sentence for five sexual assaults, forcible confinement and possession of a prohibited weapon, is the subject of the Abbotsford Police Department's first public notice regarding a paroled sex offender.
Campbell's convictions include the sexual assaults of several young girls, aged five to 12, including one seven-year-old girl he abducted while she was walking to school.
Other charges include break and enter, possession of a loaded shotgun, robbery, fraud and property offences.
APD spokesperson Const. Ian MacDonald said Campbell could be frequenting the Abbotsford area.
"It's an unprecedented move on our part.
"We think we're dealing with extraordinary circumstances based on Campbell's history of violent offences of a sexual nature that specifically target young girls," he said.
Campbell's conditions are as follows:
- No contact with any person under the age of 18, unless accompanied by a responsible adult approved of by a parole officer.
- Not to consume any illegal drugs or alcohol.
- Not to be in a vehicle alone.
- Report all relationships with parents/guardians of children under 18 years.
Police are asking the public to report this individual if he is seen in violation of any of the conditions listed above.
