It's been a year since a New Westminster police officer was slashed with a knife in Queen's Park, and the police are still looking for the person they believe is responsible for the aggravated assault.

On the one-year anniversary of the incident, the police have released a composite drawing of the man they are looking for.

The incident occurred on July 30, 2011 when the New Westminster officer responded to a complaint of a distraught man in Queens Park.

As the officer approached a picnic table, the man seated at the table lunged at the officer, slashing him with a knife.

The officer suffered facial injuries which required medical attention, but he was able to disarm the man, who was last seen running towards McBride Boulevard and East Sixth Avenue.

Police are still looking for this suspect, who is described as being black, 25 to 30 years old, 6-4 tall, and 250 pounds.

He had a muscular build, brown eyes and black hair shaved on the sides with a part on the right side of head.

He also was not wearing a shirt, but was wearing forest green and black camouflage cargo shorts, white socks and white Nike sneakers with a dark colour "swoosh."

Police are also looking to locate two potential witnesses who initially called in the report of the distraught man.

Anybody with information about this assault is asked to call the New Westminster Police tip line at 604-529-2430.
