KidSport New Westminster is thrilled with the response to its first used equipment sale.

The group seeks to help kids participate in organized sports, when financial barriers would otherwise prevent them from getting involved. It held a used equipment sale on Aug. 19 to raise funds to help kids get involved with sports in New Westminster.

The sale was very successful," said Sandon Fraser, one of the organizers of the local chapter of KidSport. "Most people that came were surprised with how much quality equipment we had available from a variety of sports. Many kids were fully outfitted in lacrosse or hockey equipment (pads, skates etc) for under $100."

Fraser said about 150 attended Sunday's sale, which raised $2,500. KidSport New Westminster is planning to hold another sale of used sports equipment in March.
