Thousands of spectators turned out in brilliant sunshine during Sunday's Royal City Show & Shine.

The 12th annual event featured hundreds of vintage cars, and even some vintage fire trucks to celebrate the 150th anniversary of New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services.

While cars were the feature attraction, entertainment by local bands and local karaoke legend Cal Donnelly kept the crowd in a festive mood for the event which ran from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Musicians performed on stages located in Hyack Square and at the intersection of Sixth Street and Columbia Street. People looking for a respite from the hot weather could get a cold beverage at the Heritage Grill and the Drink Urban Lounge. And for kids, there were buskers, face painting and children's activities.

The popular poker run also took place, starting at city hall and finishing at the Starlight Casino. Participants visited local businesses to collect cards, with the goal of getting the best poker hand. Prizes were awarded to the best and worst hands, meaning even an unsuited 2-7 could be a winner.
